C1: Percussion.

C2: If you want a louder sound you hit it on your hand harder and if you want a quiet sound you hit it on your hand softer.

C3: Each boomwhacker is a different note like C,D,E,F,G,A,B,c.

Bonus question: When you hit a boomwhacker against your hand the air inside it vibrates which is how the sound is produced.
